The number of online shoppers grows every year, and so does the choice of webshops and sellers. As an online retailer you're constantly trying to optimize your store, and the marketplace eBay offers some interesting opportunities for successful sellers, such as the "eBay PowerSeller" seal of quality.
The advantages of being an eBay PowerSeller
The term PowerSeller refers to commercial sellers who sell a lot, generate high revenue, and meet eBay's standards. Sellers who meet all the criteria become PowerSellers automatically and free of charge, and they enjoy a high level of customer trust, which is particularly good for sales, especially of higher-priced items.
Sellers marked as PowerSellers get better placement of their products and a visual badge. Customers benefit from these seller distinctions too, since PowerSellers stand for good customer service, accurate item descriptions, easy return conditions, and smooth transactions. Once you reach "Top-Rated Seller" status, your store is also given an eBay guarantee badge.
The requirements
PowerSeller requirements
To become a PowerSeller you need to meet several qualifications. Typically you should have been registered as a commercial seller for at least 90 days, have a set number of transactions within 12 months (note: each purchase counts as one transaction, not each item sold), and a minimum revenue over 12 months to reach the entry level. In addition, at least 98% of your ratings must be positive, with a minimum average score in each of the four "detailed seller ratings":
Was the item as described in the listing?
Was communication with the seller and customer service satisfactory?
How quickly was the item shipped, and were the shipping guidelines met?
Were the shipping and handling costs accurate?
You also need to keep your eBay account in good standing, pay your invoices reliably, and always follow eBay's principles of professional, smooth transactions, accurate item and sales details, excellent customer service, and clearly communicated return conditions. Note that exact thresholds and levels vary by marketplace and change over time, so always check eBay's current seller-standards page for your market. Serious or repeated breaches can lead to the loss of the PowerSeller title.
Top-Rated Seller requirements
In addition to PowerSeller status, you can earn the "Top-Rated Seller" label. In principle you must already be a PowerSeller, plus meet stricter criteria such as a limited number of low seller ratings and buyer-protection cases. The clear advantages are extra customer trust and discounts on your selling fees.
Sendcloud as the ideal shipping solution
PowerSellers, especially Top-Rated Sellers, have to deliver outstanding service in express shipping and returns. Manually entering tracking numbers for every shipment costs a lot of time, so a shipping tool like Sendcloud helps.
Express shipping
To keep your status, eBay's rules require tight handling and delivery times. With express services such as UPS Express Saver you can deliver by the next business day, and with UPS Express your customers can receive the goods the following morning when you submit shipments in time.
Returns portal
Good customer service means transparent, clear communication. If a buyer isn't convinced by an item, you're obliged to take it back. The returns process can mean many hours of extra work, so a clear software solution like the Sendcloud returns portal helps: customers create their own label at home, and manual return-label work disappears.
Track & trace
As a PowerSeller you have a special responsibility to your buyers and want to offer high transparency, so tracking is a standard part of PowerSeller shipments. A shipping tool like Sendcloud sends automated track & trace emails with the order's tracking number, so your customers are informed automatically and can follow their parcel at any time.
